Outdoor Video & Photographic (OV&P) is a joint venture between Dave Estment and his wife Naomi, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Dave handles most of the photography, while Naomi assists and administers the company. Videography they share.
Dave's love of photography was initially inspired on the other side of the lens. Starting out in mechanical engineering, he soon took to racing motorcycles, on the professional Superbike and GP circuit. He represented South Africa a number of times, in an exceptional 8-year career, during which he worked with the country's top sports photographers. He has since become a seasoned member of the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists, covering 5 World Championship MotoGP's for various publications.
The quick-reflex skills required for motorsport action influenced Dave's wildlife photography too. He much prefers moving subjects to still-life, and has travelled extensively with Naomi in Southern Africa, including capturing the migration on Kenya's Masai Mara. Amongst other things, his passion for life has led him to qualify as a scuba diving instructor, professional hunter and to serve as a police reservist for almost two decades.
When Dave's racing career was curtailed by political sanctions, he was recruited into financial services, later joining his brother at the NFB Financial Services Group, where he held an eleven year directorship and remains involved. Branching from there into commercial property assembly, Dave established Estment Property & Asset Management with Naomi, all the while maintaining his professional photography alongside his corporate career.
Dave's mechanical ability and love of cutting-edge technology molded him into the techno-wiz he is today. An authority on state-of-the-art digital photographic gear, he welcomes enquiries about technical issues, purchasing of equipment, etc.
After two unfulfilling years studying towards a bursary-defined Bachelor of Science degree, Naomi spent a further two as a full-time 'dechi' (trainee karate instructor), before qualifying as a computer programmer. Advancing to analyst, she then switched to direct marketing, while working for Reader's Digest. Soon after marrying Dave, she joined him in an administrative role at NFB, where their working partnership began.
Throughout her corporate career, Naomi pursued creative interests, earning a diploma in interior decorating, advanced photographic training, as well as professional make-up and hair-styling certificates, all of which aided in running the couple's studio, specializing in modeling portfolios.
An abiding love of language led Naomi to study French and Spanish, complete a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course and teach part-time. Writing developed naturally from there and she is currently busy with her second novel. The first, a contemporary romance set in Cape Town, is pending publishing options. In addition to the photographs available for sale on this site, Dave and Naomi provide a range of professional services, from producing promotional videos and documenting exclusive safaris to commissioned corporate and commercial photography. They utilize top-end Nikon digital equipment, as well as alliances with selected designers and printers, to create tailored products, such as premium calendars and limited-edition, framed photographic collections.
